You are welcome to the Nigerian Navy Official Website.  The Website provides authentic information about the Nigerian Navy – its origin, structure, vision, mission values and operations.  I believe through the website the Nigerian public will learn more about the multitasking nature of the Nigerian Navy and its position as a major defender of our nation’s economic fortunes.

The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Umaru Musa Yar'adua recently made a pronouncement that Nigeria should develop relevant military capabilities for a credible defence posture in view of what he calls "our critical maritime dependency."  President Yar'adua spoke through the Honourable Minister of Defence, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, at the graduation of course 15 of the National War College, Abuja, (August 10, 2007) now renamed National Defence College.

A reflection on his envisaged defence posture will reveal the need to give priorities to a credible maritime defence and security forces.  This is given Nigeria's strategic location and vital economic interests in the Gulf of Guinea and its leadership position in Africa.

Nigerian Navy will continue to use what it has to maintain optimum readiness, while efforts are being made to boost the fleet through new acquisition.
