Vice Admiral lshaya Iko Ibrahim was born on 19 September 1952 at Gora-Kwoi in Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State. He attended SIM Primary School, Katugal between 1957 and 1960 and the SIM Primary School Kwoi from 1960 to 1963. He proceeded to SIM Kagoro Secondary School, Kagoro from 1964 to 1968. He was also at St Paul’s College, Zaria between 1969 and 1970 for his Higher School Certificate. He enlisted into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna as a member of 15 Regular Course and was commissioned Sub-Lieutenant on 28 December 1976.

Military Courses Attended

Vice Admiral Ibrahim has attended several military courses within and outside Nigeria.

  • He was at the Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth for his Midshipman Course and Sub-Lieutenant Technical Course at INS VENDURUTHY India.
  • He was also at INS DRONACHARIA, lndia for his Long Course in Gunnery from 1982 to 1983.
  • He attended the Nigerian Army Intelligence School, Apapa and the Military Police School, Zaria for the Officers’ Basic Intelligence and Police Courses.
  • He also attended the prestigious Armed Forces Command and Staff College for his Junior and Senior Staff courses.
  • He attended the National War College Course 10 from 2001 to 2002.
  • He later attended University of Ibadan where he bagged M.Sc in Strategic Studies from 2002 to 2003.
Appointments Held

Vice Admiral Ibrahim has served both ashore and afloat. His appointments include;

  • Executive Officer of NNS HADEJIA.
  • Missile Gunnery Officer of NNS ARADU.
  • Command Intelligence Officer for Western Naval Command.
  • Gunnery Officer onboard NNS OBUMA.
  • Chief Instructor of Gunnery School and Executive Officer, NNS OFFIOM.
  • He was appointed the Deputy Defence Adviser to Cotonou, Benin Republic in October 1990.
  • Staff Officer Intelligence at Naval Headquarters.
  • Executive Officer, NNS OKEMINI now PATHFINDER.
  • Commanding Officer, Naval Wing at NDA and Commanding Officer, Nigerian Naval Dockyard.
  • Vice Admiral Ibrahim was Commanding Officer of 3 Nigerian Navy Ships namely; NNS OFIOM, NNS AMBE and NNS EKUN.
  • The Senior Officer also served as Captain, College Administration at Nigerian Naval College (NNC) ONURA and Director of Administration at NDA.
  • He was also the Director of Administration and Logistics at the Defence Intelligence Agency and Commandant of NNC ONURA.
  • He was Chief Staff Officer, Headquarters Eastern Naval Command and Chief of Logistics at the Naval Headquarters.
  • The Senior Officer was promoted Rear Admiral with effect from 5 January 2005 and was appointed Flag Officer Commanding, Naval Training Command.
  • He was later appointed Flag Commanding, Western Naval Command in 2006 and reappointed Flag Officer Commanding Naval training Command in June 2008.
  • He was appointed Chief of the Naval Staff on 20 August 2008 and promoted Vice Admiral.
